What You Need To Know

When you suffer bereavement, a funeral for someone close to you will be the hardest day of your life. When someone dies it will come as a great shock. Sometimes the death may be expected, but nothing will prepare for the emotional shock of losing someone close. As funeral directors, we are here to help and give advice in any way we can. We are dedicated professionals who will provide a personal service to you at any time.

Inform The Doctor

As soon as possible inform the doctor that the death has occurred. He/she may write out the Medical Certificate of Death when he/she visits the house, or may request you attend the surgery for this purpose.

When Death Occurrs In Hospital

In this case the procedure is very similar. Apply to the hospital for the Medical Certificate of Death and not your family Doctor.

Procurator Fiscal

In cases where the death has been reported to the Prcurator Fiscal the procedure is somewhat dirrerent. The Procurator Fiscal and his officers are working in your interest. When the Procurator Fiscal is satisfied that the cause of death has been ascertained, he will then make arrangements for the Death Certificate ( Form 11 ) to be issued. He will also make arrangements for other necessary documentation to be issued such as ( Form E-1 ) for Cremation.

The Funeral Director will liase with the procurator Fiscal at all times to ensure that all the necessary documents are available for a funeral to proceed without undue delay.

Disbursements

Disbursements are payments that have to be made by the funeral director to third parties who have a part in the overall arrangements that have to be made at the time of arranging a funeral.

These include:

Crematoria or cemetery fees.

Doctors fees for completion of necessary medical certificates for cremation.

Intimations in Newspapers.

Flowers.

Ministers / Officiants fee.

The funeral director will add the cost of all of these payments onto the funeral account. The cost of the payments made by the funeral director to third parties will be itemised in the final funeral account.
